  • Chris Cuomo Gets New Podcast on SiriusXM

SiriusXM has announced the launch of “Cuomo Mornings,” a brand-new live weekday program hosted by veteran journalist and broadcaster Chris Cuomo. The show will air in the morning drive time slot (7-9 am ET) of SiriusXM’s bipartisan P.O.T.U.S. channel 124, leading off the channel’s daily coverage.

Sirius said “Cuomo Mornings” will “focus on breaking down party lines and elevating honest, solutions-oriented conversations about the political, cultural, and social issues shaping Americans’ lives. Broadcasting live each weekday, the program will feature Cuomo’s trademark straight talk, interviews with newsmakers from across the ideological spectrum, and conversations with listeners of all political viewpoints, creating a daily forum where disagreement doesn’t mean division.”

“Too much of our politics is about teams instead of truth,” said Chris Cuomo. “‘Cuomo Mornings’ is going to be about breaking through those barriers, asking better questions, and bringing people into the conversation instead of talking past them. We need to prioritize common sense, accountability, and real dialogue, and SiriusXM’s P.O.T.U.S. channel is exactly where that belongs. I’m very excited to be back on the platform and to engage with callers every day. Let’s get after it.”

Chris Cuomo currently anchors CUOMO on NewsNation (weeknights at 8 pm ET), which he joined in 2022.

  • Former Station Said Anchor Who Claimed to Be Persecuted for Airing Charlie Kirk Tribute Not Fired or Suspended. And Not a Journalist

WICS in Springfield, Illinois said it hasn’t fired or suspended anyone in recent months, despite what former anchor Beni Harmony said.

Harmony caught the attention of many after she claimed she had been suspended from WICS-TV Channel 20 for airing a “non-partisan tribute to Charlie Kirk” before she resigned.

WICS news director Heather Nodine told The State Journal-Register that the station has not suspended or fired anyone in the past 90 days, though she was unable to comment on Harmony’s situation specifically.

According to the station, Harmony was a sales employee whose job was to produce and anchor Marketplace, a sales-based program that features clients who pay to have interviews on the air.

Nodine said Harmony was not employed as a journalist and never worked within the station’s news department.

Harmony aired her tribute on September 12. Nodine was unable to comment about it since Nodine does not oversee Marketplace and did not supervise Harmony.

According to her LinkedIn page, Harmony was a producer and administrator for Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point USA for seven months.

  • FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez Calls Attack on Kimmel ‘Shameful’

FCC Commissioner Anna M. Gomez responded to ABC’s decision to capitulate to government pressure and openly violate the First Amendment and threaten free expression.

Her response was posted to the FCC website:

“We cannot allow an inexcusable act of political violence to be twisted into a justification for government censorship and control. First, an ABC reporter was told that his coverage amounted to hate speech and that he should be prosecuted simply for doing his job. Then, the FCC threatened to go after this same network, seizing on a late-night comedian’s inopportune joke as a pretext to punish speech it disliked. That led to a shameful show of cowardly corporate capitulation by ABC that has put the foundation of the First Amendment in danger.

“This FCC does not have the authority, the ability, or the constitutional right to police content or punish broadcasters for speech the government dislikes. If it were to take the unprecedented step of trying to revoke broadcast licenses, which are held by local stations rather than national networks, it would run headlong into the First Amendment and fail in court on both the facts and the law. But even the threat to revoke a license is no small matter. It poses an existential risk to a broadcaster, which by definition cannot exist without its license. That makes billion-dollar companies with pending business before the agency all the more vulnerable to pressure to bend to the government’s ideological demands.

“When corporations surrender in the face of that pressure, they endanger not just themselves, but the right to free expression for everyone in this country. The duty to defend the First Amendment does not rest with government, but with all of us. Free speech is the foundation of our democracy, and we must push back against any attempt to erode it.”

  • Social Media Calls for Boycotts Over Shelving of Jimmy Kimmel

After ABC and Disney agreed shelve Jimmy Kimmel after he made remarks about MAGA and the shooter of right wing lightning rod Charlie Kirk, social media erupted with posts pointing out the hypocrisy and calling for boycotts of anything having to do with the alleged defenders and destroyers of free speech.

Editorial note: I mean, wasn’t Charlie Kirk’s success all because of free speech?

Anyhoo, on X, political commentator Brian Krassenstein posted to X: “BOYCOTT ALERT! Disney/ABC just caved & pulled Jimmy Kimmel for political reasons. Nexstar — which owns The CW + 200+ local ABC, NBC, CBS & FOX stations — is part of the same machine,” he posted. “Boycott Disney. Boycott Nexstar. Boycott their advertisers. Hit them where it hurts: the $$$. RESHARE.”

CNN Senior Political Commentator and former Congressman Adam Kinzinger also said, “Would suggest we all consider this. Cancel Disney and ABC until they reverse this.”

Fred Guttenberg, father of a Parkland shooting victim, also posted on X: “The 2A killed the First Amendment. @jimmykimmel was right. If my memory is correct, these MAGAT’s ran against cancel culture. Shame on @ABCNetwork. My television will never be on ABC ever again.”

While former President Barack Obama had this to say on social media, “After years of complaining about cancel culture, the current administration has taken it to a new and dangerous level by routinely threatening regulatory action against media companies unless they muzzle or fire reporters and commentators it doesn’t like.”

  • Sinclair and Nexstar Drop Jimmy Kimmel Live for Foreseeable Future

In what looks a lot like a challenge to the First Amendment, both Sinclair and Nexstar are dropping Jimmy Kimmel Live after he made comments about the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

Sinclair has decided to indefinitely preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! beginning tonight. ABC has suspended production of Jimmy Kimmel Live!

The station group released a statement:

“Mr. Kimmel’s remarks were inappropriate and deeply insensitive at a critical moment for our country,” said Vice Chairman Jason Smith. “We believe broadcasters have a responsibility to educate and elevate respectful, constructive dialogue in our communities. We appreciate FCC Chairman Carr’s remarks today and this incident highlights the critical need for the FCC to take immediate regulatory action to address control held over local broadcasters by the big national networks.”

Sinclair’s ABC stations will air a special in remembrance of Charlie Kirk this Friday, during Jimmy Kimmel Live’s timeslot. The special will also air across all Sinclair stations this weekend. In addition, Sinclair is offering the special to all ABC affiliates across the country.

Sinclair will not lift the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on our stations until formal discussions are held with ABC regarding the network’s commitment to professionalism and accountability.

Sinclair also call upon Mr. Kimmel to issue a direct apology to the Kirk family. Furthermore, we ask Mr. Kimmel to make a meaningful personal donation to the Kirk Family and Turning Point USA.

Regardless of ABC’s plans for the future of the program, Sinclair intends not to return Jimmy Kimmel Live! to our air until we are confident that appropriate steps have been taken to uphold the standards expected of a national broadcast platform. — Sinclair

During his show Monday night, Kimmel said “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang trying to characterize this kid who killed Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them,” Kimmel said. He also poked fun at President Trump’s response to a question from the press about how he was mourning Kirk’s death after Trump pivoted to a discussion of the construction of a new White House ballroom.

Nexstar Media Group, Inc. has also announced that the company’s owned and partner television stations affiliated with the ABC Television Network will preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the foreseeable future beginning with tonight’s show.

Nexstar said it “strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.”

“Mr. Kimmel’s comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse, and we do not believe they reflect the spectrum of opinions, views, or values of the local communities in which we are located,” said Andrew Alford, President of Nexstar’s broadcasting division. “Continuing to give Mr. Kimmel a broadcast platform in the communities we serve is simply not in the public interest at the current time, and we have made the difficult decision to preempt his show in an effort to let cooler heads prevail as we move toward the resumption of respectful, constructive dialogue.”
