Chuck Carter Named ND at WBTV in Charlotte

Chuck Carter has been named the news director for WBTV in Charlotte, N. C., effective Jan. 5, 2026.

He last worked as news director at WTNH in Connecticut, where he oversaw newsroom operations, strategic planning, content standards, and team development across both on-air and digital platforms.

“We are excited to welcome Chuck to WBTV,” said Michelle Robinson, the CBS affiliate’s vice president and general manager. “His proven leadership, editorial clarity and commitment to audience-first journalism make him the ideal leader for our newsroom as we continue to grow our multiplatform coverage across the Charlotte region.”

“I look forward to working alongside this talented staff to strengthen our journalism across all platforms, deepen local storytelling, and continue earning the trust our viewers count on every day,” Carter said.

Carter began his broadcasting career in Boston and has worked at 13 television stations across the country. His career includes progressive leadership roles in several of the nation’s largest news markets, including New York, Philadelphia, Houston and Pittsburgh.

A four-time Emmy Award winner, Carter has also been honored with the Silver Circle award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and the McDonald’s Black Media Legends and Trailblazer Award. 

Throughout his career he has been credited with increasing audience engagement, improving ratings performance and expanding market share through a strong editorial vision, data-informed strategies and a focus on meaningful community coverage.
